On this auspicious occasion, Mr. Mahmood shared some thoughts as well.
“It is indeed a moment of pride for me as well as for Pakistan that I have been awarded the central bank Governor of the year 2016. In fact, this is recognition of all the teamwork that has lead to the successful reemergence of Pakistan as a safe and stable country with a promising future. Here, I would specifically mention my colleagues at SBP without whose support I would not have been able to deliver what I am being appreciated for. I am sure that the appreciation of Euro money will further boost the confidence of international investors.
Mr. Mahmood was praised for increasing confidence of the investors in the local market, changing system of governance and up-gradation of Pakistan’s capital markets. He was also praised for his diligent efforts in improving the currency rate and successfully completing IMF program which helped in bringing stability.
Mr Ashraf Mahmood is also the chairman of the SBP’s board of directors which directly handles the affairs of the Bank and makes decisions regarding policy matters.
He holds many important positions within Pakistan including member of Monetary and Fiscal Policies Coordination Board, National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) Council, National Executive Committee on Anti Monetary Laundering (AML), and Chair of the Board of Institute of Bankers in Pakistan (IBP).
Mr Mahmood was first appointed as the Deputy Governor on March, 11, 2013 after which he was made the governor in 2014. Within a span of two years his prolific personality and business acumen has changed the course of business and investment.
